Watch This Leopard Being Rescued After Falling Into A Well
People living in an Indian village became alarmed when they heard loud and panicked roars emanating from a 60 foot well. They were shocked to find a leopard that was at the bottom and was fighting for its life. People from the village which is located in the state of Maharashtra contacted the Forest Department which in turn contacted the Manikdoh Leopard Rescue Centre which is run by Wildlife SOS.
State of panic
According to the centre’s veterinarian, the leopard was in a state of panic and needed immediate rescuing. So the rescuers had to build a small platform which was constructed using long sticks tied together and then held it just above the water line of the well. The platform was intended to offer refuge for the leopard above the water. Most of the villagers were watching the rescue effort whilst some joined in with the effort to offer the leopard a way out.
Dangerous operation
Kartick Satyanarayan who helped found Wildlife SOS said the entire process had to be executed quickly and with painstaking care. At first the leopard was hesitant to take the help on offer but ultimately entered the cage. The leopard was identified as a three-year-old female and after an exam was conducted, the team concluded it was fit and ready for release. Leopards are often seen in this part of India with sugar cane field providing camouflage as a result of their rapidly disappearing habitat. Because they do not have net covers, many wells in this part of Maharashtra are exposed which increases the risk of wild animals falling into them.
