Spear Fisherman Catches Moment Of Shark Attack On Camera
A spear fisherman who had a camera attached to his head was able to catch an intense moment when a reef shark measuring 8 feet long attacked him and took a chunk out of his leg. The incident took place near Middle Samo Reef of Boca Chica in the Florida Keys. The fisherman who has not been identified posted a video of the attack on the internet and wrote that “this clearly could have been much worse”
Shark came out of nowhere
The man who was fishing of the coast of Florida said the shark came out of nowhere. The spear fisherman was holding a black grouper he had caught earlier and appeared to point towards the shark about 14 seconds into the video. Fifteen seconds later the shark can be clearly seen in the video as it swims near the surface of the sea.
“He first went at my dive buddy Justyn but immediately turned toward me,” the victim wrote. “He first bit my left fin then took a chunk out of the right one before biting my leg and cutting the spear-gun line. I assumed he was trying to steal the black grouper I was holding. But after I lost the grouper and watched it swim to the bottom, the shark kept coming at us!”
Could have been killed
Be warned if you watch the video, all the splashing around and the bubbles make it difficult to see all of the attack but you will see wound very clearly so if you are squeamish, avoid that. The victim goes on to add that the shark tore through his skin, fatty tissue muscle and ultimately his tibial artery which resulted in the loss of nearly a litre of blood. The victim needed assistance from another strong swimmer to get back to the boat and was patched up on board. If he had not received treatment immediately he most certainly would have died.
