Rare Black Footed Kittens Born at Aspinall Park
Awesome news coming through from the Aspinall Foundation’s Port Lympne Wild Animal Park, where two black footed kittens have just been born. The park, near Ashford in Kent, is pleased to now house these two little bundles of fun, who also happen to be one of the rarest cats in the world!
They may look a bit like your average street moggy, but these little beauties live only in Africa and can be found sneaking around the grasslands of
- Botswana
- South Africa
- Namibia
- Southern Angola
These little cats (one of the smallest in the world) are mostly nocturnal, and can travel up to 16 kilometres for food. That’s in the wild of course! They won’t be having those kind of travel issues with the Aspinall Foundation’s helpful staff on hand to look after them and their feeding requirements.
All the family are now doing well, including their mother M’bali, who is keeping a watchful eye on them as they begin to explore the enclosure.
Section Manager of Small Carnivores, Neville Buck, said –
These two kittens are doing really well – it’s great to see them bouncing around and exploring, they are already venturing outside, and can often be seen playing late in the afternoon.
Check out the video below to see them having fun in their new home.
Amazing little creatures aren’t they? Here’s hoping the Aspinall Foundation every success in continuing to breed these sadly declining cats, and maybe one day start to re-populate Africa to stop them slipping into extinction.

There are only two wild animal parks in Europe that hold black footed cats at the moment so we’re delighted our new arrivals will help increase the population. Little is known about this species except that its numbers are falling.
If you would like to support the amazing work of the Aspinall Foundation, why not adopt an animal though our dedicated page? There’s loads to choose from, and with your help they can continue to their efforts to save the world’s most endangered species.
