Port Lympne Excited To Welcome New Gorillas
The Aspinall Foundation has some very exciting news. The Port Lympne Wild Animal Park is expecting a new family of gorillas to move into the Palace of the Apes. The attraction has laid empty since its previous residents Djala and family made the move to live free in the wild in Gabon. Since they left the park has made a number of alterations to the enclosure as it seeks to prepare it for the new residents who have already moved in.
The new residents are Tebe, Oundi and Sangha all of whom are females and have made the move from Port Lympne’s sister park Howletts. Over the coming weeks a silver back named Kouillou and his family will also make the move and the park says it is positively thrilled.
The gorillas are expected to be a little shy to begin with as they become accustomed to the new enclosure. However the family will be given access to three areas which include a glass fronted enclosure, a garden and an indoor area. The best vantage point to view the gorillas from is expected to be the side of the indoor quarters. Once the gorillas feel more comfortable they are expected to visit the glass fronted part of the enclosure.
The park is requesting the public to be patient as the animals adjust to their new surroundings. The park has a policy of not forcing its inhabitants to be viewed and lets them choose where they want to be and when. That policy means the gorillas and other residents of the park may not be visible all the time.
