Meerkats Move Into New Digs At The Port Lympne Wild Animal Park
Great news from the Aspinall Foundation If you are visiting the Port Lympne Wild Animal Park and have booked your accommodation at the Elephant then you will be sharing your digs with some new residents the park likes to call the meerkat
The little critters were moved into their new digs at the Elephant Lodge to coincide with the peak tourist season and guests of all ages seem to be delighted.
“The meerkats have been in an enclosure which is off show to the public whilst students from K College were building their brand new home. The meerkats love the new enclosure and get as much joy out of seeing the guests at the lodge as the guests do from seeing them.” Simon Jeffrey, Animal Manager said.
The new enclosure housing the meerkats were designed and built by students of K College under the guidance of Richard Barnes the Head Keeper. The digs include a tunnel which can be used for burrowing into, a heated indoor areas and a glass viewing panel which can be used by the tourists and the critters alike.
“We’re all very grateful to the students at K College for building this new home for our meerkats. They have done a wonderful job and the meerkats are having a great time digging, burrowing and playing.” Mr. Jeffrey added
Port Lympne Wild Animal Park’s Elephant Lodge is now two years old and the management are pleased to announce that accommodation is nearly sold out for this year and bookings for next year are flooding in.
“Elephant Lodge has really taken off. It’s proving to be so popular with our guests that we have already added further luxury tents and we are aiming to add more to satisfy demand.” Bob O’Connor, Managing Director said
Recently the park announced plans for expansion in the future including new short break accommodations with the historic mansion being converted into a boutique hotel.
