Male White Tiger Too Shy To Have Sex
Tiger handlers at Alipore Zoo which is located in the Indian city of Kolkata say they have not been successful in their attempts to mate a young male tiger. It seems that the big cat is showing no interest in mating. Vishal is a 10 year old white tiger and so far has rebuffed the advances of a tigress named Rupa that lives in the enclosure next door. Zoo officials say that libido enhancers have not seemed to work and are blaming Vishal’s shyness on the fact that he was bred in captivity.
“For the past six months we’ve been trying to mate Vishal. We have de-wormed him to improve his overall health. We have given him libido enhancers, including vitamin D, A and E. But he is shy and no libido has been noticed in him,” Dayanarayan Banerjee, who retired as the senior veterinary officer at the zoo said.
Vishal may be too old to mate
Mr. Banerjee says this is the first time the zoo has attempted to get Vishal to mate. He is currently the only male in the zoo that is of breeding age, however he may be a little too old to mate. Mr. Banerjee adds that the most appropriate age for a tiger to mate is when he reaches the ages of between five to six years old. In some cases seven to eight year old’s do mate however once a tiger is ten years or older it becomes more difficult.
Friendly with the female
According to Mr. Banerjee when Vishal was first introduced to Rupa who is an eight year old tigress, he was friendly enough and did not exhibit any signs of hostility. However that appears to be where the contact ended. Mr. Banerjee says that Rupa was willing but her would be partner appeared reluctant. Zoo authorities are not yet giving up on getting Vishal to mate with Rupa.
“We are considering introducing him to Rani, she is a Bengal tigress, and she has a very beautiful face. But she is in an enclosure that’s far away from Vishal’s and we are awaiting a decision on whether we can move her to a nearby enclosure.” Officials said
