Conservation Spotlight: Help the Hedgehog
During the month of May the British Hedgehog Society ran an awareness week to shed some light on this seemingly secretive creature. As part of the campaign, they provided some simple conservation measures that people could take at home and in their garden.
We love the hedgehog so much, that we thought we’d share them here to.
- Ensure there is access into the garden (all that is needed is 5” square gap).
- Check areas before strimming or mowing the grass.
- Move piles of rubbish to a new site before burning it.
- Ensure that the netting is kept at a safe height.
- Check compost heaps before digging the fork in.
- Stop or reduce the amount of pesticides and poisons used.
- Cover drains or deep holes.
- Ensure there an easy route out of ponds and pools.
