Check Out These Wild Polar Bears Getting Up Close And Personal With A Tourist Group
Tourists visiting the wilderness of the Canadian Arctic on a fly-in polar bear safari got their money’s worth when they had a breath-taking encounter with a mama polar bear and her two 2-year-old cubs. Fortunately for the tourists, they were safely positioned behind an electric fence so were not in any danger whatsoever, but if you check out the video, you will see the polar bears approaching the camp from the distant sea ice.
Curious polar bear cubs
That meant the tourist had enough time to obtain the best position to achieve a close encounter their guide was completely certain would happen. David Briggs who led the expedition said he was optimistic his charges would get what they came for because of the presence of the polar bear cubs. Polar bear cubs are incredibly curious and generally move towards the focus of their attention. If you watch the footage you will notice that the polar bears didn’t quite know what to make of the humans.
Things couldn’t have gone better had they been planned
Mr Briggs said he couldn’t have planned the way things worked out any better himself. The polar bear cubs approached the group just as the sun was coming up in the crisp cold air where even their breath could be seen. He added the experience was a magical one with the cubs repeatedly coming back to the fence and the tourists getting the memory of a life time.
Incredible experience
The Inuit guides as well as leaders of the expedition usually observe the behaviour of the polar bears as they approach as well as their demeanour and physical condition. Rather unsurprisingly rifles are kept ready just in case the worst happens. Mr Briggs says it is such a unique experience for tourists that they go crazy with excitement, laughing and hugging one another. No doubt it is an unbelievable experience to interact with a polar bear in the wild and it is a privilege. Mr Briggs says the reality of getting so close to these wild animals is an incredible experience he will never tire of.
