Port Lympne Pleased To Announce The Arrival Of A Cheetah Litter

The Aspimall Foundation’s Port Lympne Wild Animal Park is delighted to announce the birth of the first set of cheetah cubs at the conservation park in almost three decades.

The cheetah, which is affectionately known as Izzy gave birth to four cubs in September and the animals handlers are pleased with the progress the cubs have made so far.

Rich Barnes, Head of Large Carnivores commented: “We are really chuffed that as a first time Mum Izzy’s done really well. It is quite difficult to breed cheetahs as the process is quite different to other species, so we are really pleased that it has all gone well.”

Guide Dog Makes Entrance Into House of Lords

Recently the first ever guide dog to be formally introduced to Peers entered the House of Lords.

Chris Holmes who now carries the title of Lord Holmes of Richmond took an oath of allegiance at a special ceremony in Westminster before the Lord Speaker with his guide dog sat firmly at his feet.

The Aspinall Foundation To Establish Scottish Wildcat Breeding Centre

The Aspinall Foundation (TAF) says it is launching an initiative to save the Scottish Wildcat which is now critically endangered as a result of interbreeding with feral domestic cats.

TAF will send a conservation team to build a custom wildcat breeding centre located on island of the Scottish west coast called Carna. The breeding centre will also serve as a sanctuary for pure Scottish wildcats whose numbers are estimated to be less than 35 in the wild.

Businesses Break The Law By Denying Access to Guide Dogs

Many businesses across the United Kingdom, by denying the partially sighted and blind access with their guide dogs are breaking the law.

According to the latest data from Guide Dogs for the blind, ordinary shops, transport services and cafes are refusing access to the guide dog owners.

Restaurants were the worst offenders with 24 per cent of reported incidents and 60 per cent of all refusals. Public transport was the second worst offender with nearly a quarter of all reports with taxi’s in particular soaking up two thirds of those complaints.

Arthur and Echo are the latest additions to the Port Lympne Wild Animal Park near Ashford. Who or what are Arthur and Echo? well simply put they are crowned sifaka lemurs which are a type of primate.

Arthur and Echo are actually brothers and have travelled all the way from Belfast and seem to be enjoying their new surroundings very much.

Aspinall Foundation Announces The Birth Of First Javan Gibbon

Conservationist Damian Aspinall who heads up the Aspinall Foundation has announced the birth of their first Javan Gibbon at the Foundation’s conservation project in Indonesia.

The new born baby is special because both of its parents are rescued animals and escaped the worst of the illegal trade in pets which saw both mummy and daddy locked up and squeezed into tiny cages.

Atherton’s Guide Dog Training School Annual Fun Day Big Success

The recently held fun day for Atherton’s Guide Dog Training School attracted an estimated 3000 people say the event organizers.

The event is organized by the Guide Dogs for the Blind charity and last year the fund day raised over £9,000. This year it is hoped a similar amount is raised for the school in Gibfield Park.

The annual fun day is a way people can come and observe the kind of work being done at the centre. There is also a great pet show which gives awards to categories such as ‘waggiest tail’ and “happiest dog”

The little critters were moved into their new digs at the Elephant Lodge to coincide with the peak tourist season and guests of all ages seem to be delighted.

Lots of us have an anecdote to tell when we are asked who is the most famous person we have met. The closest I have come to meeting a famous person is when I nicked Andre Agassi’s towel from him at a tennis tournament I was ball boying when I was thirteen.

I digress, being able to name drop is important for charities like Guide Dogs for the Blind. Being able to call on high profile names is a way to cut through the noise and grab some much needed attention when driving the message home. This is the difference between being drowned out or being heard when they are trying to say something really important.
