Livingstone Lodge Wins Gold for Aspinall Foundation

Directors at the Aspinall Foundation Howletts and Port Lympne Wild Animal Park are over the moon to win gold for The Best Tourism Experience in The Beautiful South Awards for Excellence 2011. Livingstone Lodge, set within the confines of the Park, is the only authentic safari experience in the UK, offering visitors the chance to spend a night under the stars. Whilst staying at the Lodge, you can also sample some traditional African cuisine as Zebra and wildebeest graze quietly in the background.

Black Rhino Calf Born on Christmas Day

Aspinall Foundation staff at the Port Lympne Wild Animal Park were over the moon on Christmas morning when a critically endangered Black Rhino Calf called Nyota was born. Born at 6.20am, the calf was named after the Swahili for ‘star’, and what a proper little Christmas cracker she is!

Snow Leopard Arrives at Howletts Animal Park

Aspinall Foundation keepers are pleased to announce the arrival of Ziva, a rare female snow leopard who has arrived just in time for Christmas. This beautiful creature is to take part in the ongoing breeding programme at Howletts Wild Animal Park near Canterbury, though with the weather so balmy for this time of year, there’s a good chance this Snow Leopard may not see any snow!

Aspinall Foundation Tiger Celebrates 13th birthday

Zookeepers at the Aspinall Foundation’s Port Lympne & Howletts Park were delighted to celebrate one of their Amur Tigers 13th birthday in September 2011. Tugar lives at the park near Ashford in Kent with his mate Ingrid and their one year old cubs Rosa and Zaria. Tugar celebrated his birthday with some tiger friendly gifts from his keepers.

Aspinall Foundation Celebrate 130th Gorilla Birth

The Aspinall Foundation has just recently celebrating the birth of an amazing 130th gorilla at their Kent Parks, quite a feat! The Howletts and Port Lympne Wild Animal Park care for the largest group of Western lowland gorillas outside of Africa, housing some 73 gorillas. The latest addition was born to mother Kishi and father Djala and is part of a family group of 13 gorillas.

Keepers Celebrate World Rhino Day – 22-09-11

Aspinall Foundation zoo keepers at the Port Lympne Wild Animal Park had a great day yesterday as they celebrated World Rhino Day. The Park, along with it’s sister park in Canterbury, is home to 17 black rhinos, giving it the mantle of the most successful breeding record of the species in Europe!

Happy 50th Birthday to UKs Oldest Gorilla

The Aspinall Foundation were wishing Mouila, a female Western lowland gorilla, a very happy birthday as she turned 50 this month at the Howletts Wild Animal Park in Kent. This landmark date makes Mouila the oldest Western lowland gorilla in the UK and one of the oldest of her kind worldwide.

New Capybara Pups at Howletts Park

The Aspinall Foundation are absolutely over the moon with their four Capybara pups that were born in their Howletts Wild Animal Park this month. The new breed consist of five female and one male (poor bloke!), and are one of the star attractions at the park. These little cuties have been turning visitors heads with their nonchalant padding around their area.

New Rare Fawns Born at Port Lympne Park

Keepers at the Aspinall Foundation Port Lympne Park were delighted to see 6 new Barasingha fawns which will join the herd of 22 at the park. The rare animals, also known as Swamp Deer, were born in the park at the beginning of July 2011, and are creating quite stir with recent visitors to the park. Currently on the endangered species ‘Vulnerable’ list, their total numbers may be as few as 3500, so the latest arrivals have been warmly received by both staff and visitors at the park.
