The recent cold spell that we have been enduring (which feels like a century!), is causing real problems for birds across the country as they struggle to find food to survive. As I’m sure we are all to aware, this has been the coldest Spring in a century, and with the big freeze brings a lack of nutrition that birds, including many rare ones, need to cope with the extreme weather.
Quite unbelievable news coming through as police have been in touch with the Aspinall Foundation to warn them that their rhinos may be under threat from poachers. The animal conservation charity has the most successful breeder of black rhinos in the world, and could now be targeted by black market gangs who are looking to cash in on their hard work.
Aspinall Foundation keepers were as pleased as punch at the new arrival at their Javan Langur enclosure this month. During this ridiculously cold Spring, the new baby has been a real ray of sunshine at the Port Lympne Wild Animal Park, as due to the weather no new arrivals were expected!
Aspinall Foundation keepers were over the moon this Easter, and not just because they got a chance to eat loads of chocolate! It was a chance to see the latest addition to the Brazilian Tapir family venture out into the cold for a little look around, and what a little beauty he is!
There are now less than 900 Mountain Gorillas left on the planet, and unless we all pull together and make a stand, they will become extinct in the not too distant future.

The weather may be driving us a bit mad at the moment, but the Red Pandas at the Aspinall Foundation Port Lympne Animal are jumping for joy! This has been said to be the some of the worst weather in the UK for 25 years, with snow in March being a real rarity. But this freak weather occurrence may have had us shivering into our duvets, but the snow that blanketed the country made the beautiful Red Pandas feel right at home in Kent.

WWF charity officials were over the moon as news finally broke that Thailand has pledged to end their involvement in the trade of ivory. Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has now began the legislative process to end the countries ivory trade after almost 1.5 million signed a WWF petition asking the Thai government to rethink their policies at the Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species of Fauna and Flora in Bangkok.
