Hunting Cheetahs Depend On Agility Rather Than Speed

The cheetah is known as being the fastest land animal on the planet however these elegant big cats actually depend on their ability to rapidly accelerate and maneuver around turns which are extremely tight when it comes to hunting according to the results of a new study. The study looking a five cheetahs in the wilderness of Northern Botswana and found that despite reaching speeds as fast as 97 km/h, the animals relied more on their agility then their ability to reach a fast pace to take down their prey.

Only 5 Northern White Rhinos Left On The Planet

Last month at the San Diego Zoo, an elderly Northern white rhino died leaving behind just five of the species on earth, with scientists saying there is limited hope for any more being born. The rhino had reached the grand old age of 44 when he died and was being treated for a number of ailments according to Randy Rieches, mammal creator at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

The ad is titled “Friends Furever” and is designed to illustrate the fact that despite a number of versions, all Android devices are compatible. The ad does this by showing an eclectic mix of animals you would never of thought of as being friends hanging out or playing with one another. There is a hippo playing with a tortoise, a lion and oryx, a puppy and a kitten and much more. The ad was posted just last week and has already had millions of page views. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the world’s most adorable hamsters are back and they are celebrating the day of love with a romantic date. The waiter/chef places the cute little creatures in a tiny gondola which then proceeds to sail around a delightful mock canal, before arriving at a charming miniature table for two. For this particular date, the hamsters feasted on a menu of red quinoa meatballs and perciatelli pasta which is a spaghetti like noodle. All over the world, reindeer populations are in trouble. In particular in China, reindeer numbers are suffering largely as a result of inbreeding according to the results of the latest research. At present you can find populations of reindeer living in China, Mongolia, Russia, Alaska, Canada, Finland, Norway and Sweden. The research conducted by Beijing’s Renmin University focused on the Chinese reindeer population and found that since the 1970’s there has been a decline of 28 per cent.

One of our favourite big cats is the cheetah which is a member of the Felidae family, which means they are closely related to pumas, lynxes and bobcats. These graceful animals are well known for their amazing speed and can be identified by their unique black spots on their yellow coats. According to the Smithsonian National Zoological Park, the cheetah is the fastest land based animal in the world, and has the ability to reach speeds as fast as 72 kilometres per hour in under three seconds. The cheetah’s top speed is 103 kilometres per hour, however they can only sustain that only very briefly. Let’s take a closer look at this very elegant animal.
