Check out this amazing video of a swift rescue of a drowning elephant calf by two adult elephants. CCTV footage was captured from the Grand Park Zoo in South Korea showing a baby elephant playfully dunking it’s trunk into a large pool of water standing right next to an adult elephant. The next thing that happens is the baby elephant falls into the enclosure pool. At first the panicked adult looked on helplessly as the baby tried to keep its head and trunk above water. Another adult who was nearby heard the splash and arrived at its partners side within seconds as both attempted a rescue.
Mounting the rescue
Both adults could not reach the calf using their trunks. The two adults then entered the pool and headed towards the calf, pushing it up against the side of the pool. From this position, the two adults were able to use their trunks to hold the baby elephant up. In the background, a third elephant can be seen panicking, running back and forth in a separate enclosure. At that point the two adults in the pool herd the baby elephant back towards the shallow end of the pool and fortunately back on to dry land.
