Check Out This Video Of A Leopard Rampaging Through An Indian School
Recently a male leopard was seen rampaging through a school in the Indian city of Bangalore which led to a ten hour stand-off between wildlife officers and the big cat. According to news reports, six people were said to have received injuries as they sought to remove the leopard. Ultimately the leopard which is estimated to be eight years old was tranquilised and moved to Bannerghatta Biological Park for recovery.
Long struggle to catch the animal
The alarm was raised when surveillance footage showed the leopard entering the school’s premises. In the video you can see the leopard running around the swimming pool and then attacking a man who was attempting to flee to safety by climbing up a wire fence to safety.
“It was a long struggle to capture the leopard. Although it was injected with tranquilisers it could be captured only around 20.15 local time when the medication took full effect.” senior police official S. Boralingaiah told reporters.
Leopards suffering from habitat destruction
A wildlife official told reporters that he thinks the leopard came from a forested area quite close to the school. Bangalore is considered to be India’s version of Silicon Valley and is a modern city with a thriving community of information technology professionals. Over the last ten years, the city’s population has grown by 47 per cent and over the last two decades its size has expanded by well over 300 per cent. With that kind of urban sprawl invading the natural habitat destruction, it comes as no surprise that occasionally become accidental intruders.
