Watch Young Rescued Elephant Reunite With Her Long Lost Mother
The phrase an elephant never forgets has new meaning when you watch this video of a rescued Asian elephant reuniting with her mum. The video was taken on Northern Thailand’s Elephant Nature Park sanctuary and shows a young female elephant named Mei-Bai nuzzling up to her mother Mae Yui.
According to a sanctuary spokesperson, Me-Bai started off her life with her mum and they were together for about three and a half years in a different part of Thailand. She was then sold off to work as entertainment for tourists. However she was sold too early and started to lose weight which meant she was unable to carry tourists..
The little lady spent three to four years away from her mum but was rescued recently and taken to the sanctuary. Initially she was a little wary of people but soon adjusted park staff said. Once caretakers understood that her mother was working in the tourist industry very close by, they approached the owners who allowed her to retire at the sanctuary. It is thought that the mother is about 30 years old. The video of the reunion is the result.
“Now, Mae Yui’s owners and Elephant Nature Park are working together to rehabilitate Mae Yui and Me-Bai so that they can return to the wild and live free,” the group writes.
