Incredible Leopard Footage with Aspinall Foundation
Check out these amazing pictures that were captured of a leopard by Aspinall Foundation cameras in Africa. This rare sighting was discovered in an area go the country known as the Batéké Plateau, which is a huge national park in the south east of Gabon. This area is protected by the conservation charity to help the areas wildlife, as they struggle to survive through poaching and lack of habitat.
Leopards are particularly rare sightings in this area, as their number have dwindled down to endangered levels. This is hopefully a sign that animal numbers in the area are on the rise thanks to the the ongoing work that the Aspinall Foundation are putting into their flagship project in Africa.
The camera traps are used to try and track animal movements throughout the forests, and to help measure animal populations without effecting their natural behaviour with human contact. After all, I’m not sure how well a man with a clipboard in a white coat would go down with the wildlife in the Gabon! The Aspinall Foundation have been using cameras such as these for more than two years in Africa, and found them a very useful tool in documenting the many species that call the forest home. These include chimpanzees, elephants, and now a glimpse at this beautiful leopard.

The Batéké Plateau is an area of incredible biodiversity where many forest and savanna species can be found. Part of our commitment to conservation is taking concrete steps towards preserving areas along with protecting individual species.Footage like this reinforces the importance of protecting habitats and finding ways to extend this protection beyond the limits of national reserves. The camera traps have proved very successful in providing us with an idea of the amount of species in this area, their numbers and their movements.

The leopard population is now massive decline across the globe due to habitat loss and poaching.
